How to create a website for your brand without coding

A complete, step-by-step guide to building your own brand website using AI — no coding, no page builder, no subscription to a platform. You describe what you want, an AI writes it, and you publish it on your own domain. One weekend, start to finish.

There are two good ways to get a website for your brand. You can hire a designer or an agency, which buys you their taste, their experience and their responsibility — genuinely worth paying for, and the right answer for a lot of people. Or you can build it yourself, which is what this guide is about.

Until recently the second option meant learning to code. It no longer does. You now describe the website you want in plain English, an AI writes the actual files, and you put them on your own domain. This guide walks through the whole process end to end: the two tools to install, how to write instructions that produce a site that looks like your brand, how to make it findable on Google, and how to publish it.

Time needed

One weekend

two evenings and a Saturday

Setup Friday, the real work Saturday, live on Sunday.

Coding knowledge needed

None

not a single line

You need to describe what you want. That is the whole skill.

What you need before you start

  • A laptop Windows or Mac. Nothing powerful required.
  • Your photographs Pictures of your work, and a rough idea of what each page should say.
  • A Claude account For the AI that builds the site. Paid plan recommended — see below.
  • Hosting and a domain Both covered in step six, and both bought in one place.

No design software, no coding knowledge, no previous website. If you have ever written a detailed WhatsApp message explaining what you want, you have the skill this needs.

What is vibe coding?

Vibe coding means building software by describing what you want to an AI in plain language, rather than writing code yourself. The term was coined in early 2025 and it describes exactly what you will be doing: you say "a page for a ceramics brand, photographs large, prices visible", the AI builds it, you look at the result and say what is wrong, and it fixes that. Repeat forty times and you have a website.

You never learn syntax. You learn to say clearly what you want, which is a different skill and one you probably already have. The people who struggle are not the non-technical ones — they are the ones who can only say "I don't like it" and cannot say why.

What you can and cannot build this way

Works well: a brand website, a portfolio, a maker's catalogue, a personal site, a studio or practice page, a restaurant menu, a service list. Anything whose job is to show your work, say who you are, and make it easy to get in touch.

Get help instead: card payments taken on the site, customer logins, shopping baskets, anything storing personal or medical records. Those fail quietly and expensively, and they are worth paying a professional for.

The example used throughout

Every instruction below builds one real site so the steps stack up into something concrete. Say you make ceramics and sell at weekend markets and through Instagram, under the brand name Kumbh. Substitute your own brand as you read.

Which AI plan to take

There is a free Claude plan, and I would not use it for this. Its daily limit will stop you halfway through Saturday, and losing momentum is the commonest reason people abandon the project. Take Claude Pro, about ₹1,800 for the month, and finish. You can cancel once the site is live — the website keeps running without it.

01Install VS Code and Claude Code

Friday evening. Fifteen minutes, two installations, no typing of commands.

Install VS Code

VS Code is a free program from Microsoft — the workshop your website and the AI both sit in. Download it from code.visualstudio.com and install it like any other software.

Add the Claude Code extension

The AI installs from inside VS Code, the way you add an app from the Play Store:

  1. Open VS Code and press Cmd+Shift+X (Mac) or Ctrl+Shift+X (Windows).
  2. Search for Claude Code.
  3. Click Install on the extension published by Anthropic.
  4. Restart VS Code if nothing appears.

Click the spark icon — top right, or in the strip down the left — and a chat panel opens beside your work. Sign in when prompted.

Create your project folder

Make an empty folder (Documents/kumbh), then in VS Code choose File → Open Folder and select it. Everything happens inside that folder, and that folder is your website.

02Choose HTML and Tailwind, not React

Friday, later. One sentence that decides how much can go wrong later.

Tell the AI to build with plain HTML and Tailwind CSS. You do not need to know what those are, only what asking for them gets you:

  • Fewer things break. Less machinery means the AI makes fewer mistakes — which matters when you cannot read the code to check.
  • It loads fast on mobile data, which is how most of your visitors will see it, and which Google measures.
  • It runs on any hosting, including the cheapest shared plans.
  • It still works in ten years. Plain files do not need updating.

You will also hear about React and Next.js. Those are for websites that are really applications — logins, accounts, dashboards. Genuinely better for that job, and unnecessary complication for a brand website.

Pick the simple one. A brand website has to load fast, show your work, and still function in three years — and all three are easier with less machinery underneath.

03Write prompts that build the right site

Saturday morning. The real work, and the only skill this guide actually teaches.

This is where a generic website and a website that looks like your brand are separated. Everything before it was setup.

Describe the whole thing before asking for anything

Opening with "build a website for my brand" gets you the average of every website ever made: a stock photograph, a line about passion and quality, a colour scheme from nowhere. The AI knows nothing about you, so it guesses.

Weak prompt

Build a website for my ceramics brand.

Effective prompt

I make ceramics — bowls, cups, a few vases — and sell them
at weekend markets in Jaipur and through Instagram. The
brand is called Kumbh. It is just me, about two hundred
pieces a year, all thrown by hand.

Build a single-page website in plain HTML with Tailwind CSS.

The photographs are the point. Big, uncrowded, three or four
before anything else — someone should understand what Kumbh
makes before they read a word.

Then: a short paragraph on how the pieces are made and why
they are not identical. An honest price range, no "contact
for pricing". Which markets I'm at this season. A WhatsApp
button to ask about a piece.

Tone: quiet and plain. Let the work talk. Never use the
words artisanal, bespoke, curated or passion.

Warm off-white background, not stark white. Nothing that
looks like a shopping site — no badges, no offers, no
sliding carousel.

Each paragraph removes a decision the AI would otherwise make badly for you: who is visiting, what they see first, how it sounds, and what you do not want. That is ninety seconds of typing and it changes the entire result.

Ask for one change at a time

Sending four changes at once means you cannot tell which one made things worse. Ask, look, then ask again. It feels slower and is faster.

Describe the problem, not the fix

You do not know what size the text should be. The AI does. Telling it how to fix something caps the result at your own knowledge of design.

Instead ofSay
Make the font 18 pixelsThis is hard to read on my phone
Add 40px of space hereThe photos feel cramped together
Make the button blueThe button doesn't look tappable
Put these side by sideOn my phone these stack up awkwardly

Show reference sites and screenshots

Paste the address of a site you admire and say precisely what you like about it ("the space around the photographs" — not "make it like this"), or drag a screenshot into the chat panel.

Make it plan before it builds

Before you build anything, tell me how you'd lay this page
out and why. Wait for me to say go.

Changing a plan costs a sentence. Changing four hundred lines you cannot read costs an afternoon.

Save your brand details in a CLAUDE.md file

Ask the AI to create a file called CLAUDE.md in your folder. It reads that file every time, so nothing in it needs repeating.

# Kumbh

Handmade ceramics, Jaipur. One person, everything thrown by
hand, about two hundred pieces a year. Sold at weekend
markets and through Instagram.

## Voice
Quiet and plain. Short sentences. Let the work talk.
Never use: artisanal, bespoke, curated, passion, journey.

## Look
Warm off-white background, never stark white. Photographs
large and uncrowded. Nothing resembling a shopping site.

## Never
- Text smaller than 16px
- Stock photography
- Pop-ups asking for an email address

## Details
WhatsApp: +91 XXXXX XXXXX
Instagram: @kumbh.ceramics
Markets: Sundays, Jawahar Kala Kendra, Oct-Mar

## Build
Plain HTML and Tailwind CSS. No frameworks. Must work on a
slow connection.

When something breaks

Describe what you see, not what you think caused it — "the page is white after your last change", "the photos are stacked on top of each other". Guessing at causes sends the AI hunting in the wrong place.

04Set up basic SEO

Saturday afternoon. An hour that decides whether anyone ever arrives.

Do this first

Claim your free Google Business Profile. For a brand selling in one city it does more than everything on the website combined — it puts you on Google Maps with photographs, timings and a call button. Twenty minutes, no cost.

Then on the site itself:

  • One clear heading per page saying what you make and where — "Handmade ceramics, Jaipur", not "Welcome to Kumbh".
  • A page title under 60 characters, a description around 155. Those two lines are what people read in search results.
  • A separate page per distinct offering, once you have more than a page's worth of content.
  • Real typed text, not photographs of text. Google cannot read a price written into an image.
  • A WhatsApp button rather than a contact form. Very few people here fill in a form and wait for an email.
  • Compressed photographs. A phone photo is several megabytes; ten will make the site feel broken on mobile data.
  • Identical brand name, city and phone number everywhere — website, Google, Instagram. Inconsistency weakens local ranking.

Ask for most of it in one message:

Set up the SEO basics: one clear heading saying what we make
and where, a page title under 60 characters, a meta
description around 155, a sensible page address, alt text on
every photograph, LocalBusiness structured data with our
details, plus sitemap.xml and robots.txt. Tell me what you
changed and why.

05Back up your files with GitHub

Saturday evening. Ten minutes so the weekend becomes impossible to lose.

GitHub keeps a private copy of your folder online and remembers every version, so an experiment that ruins the layout is never frightening — you can return to how it was this morning. Make a free account at github.com and paste:

Put this folder on my GitHub account as a private copy, and
walk me through anything you need me to click.

From then on, one habit: before any big change, say "save this first".

Coming soon

A full GitHub walkthrough for non-technical readers — save points, undoing a bad evening, and sharing access safely — is being written separately.

06Publish your website with Hostinger

Sunday morning. The short step, and the one you will remember.

You need two things to go live: hosting (a computer that serves your files to visitors) and a domain name (your address). For a brand website in India I would use Hostinger, because it bundles both and the control panel is the least intimidating of the lot.

Hostinger discount code

BUSI20OFF Open Hostinger

Open the link and the code is applied for you; if you are already on their site, paste it into the coupon box at checkout. The discount that appears is whatever Hostinger is currently running against this code — check the figure at checkout, and check the renewal price as well as the first-term one.

What you get in one place:

  • Free domain, year oneIncluded on most plans — .in or .com.
  • SSL includedThe padlock in the address bar, switched on for you.
  • Email at your domainWrite from [email protected] instead of Gmail.
  • A file managerUpload your folder through it. No technical steps.
  • Indian billingPay in rupees, get a GST invoice.
  • Support in English and HindiAround the clock, over chat.

Publishing takes about ten minutes:

  1. Open Hostinger and pick a shared hosting plan. Longer terms carry the lowest monthly rate; check what the plan renews at, not just the first-term price.
  2. Register your free domain during signup — in your own name and your own email address.
  3. In hPanel, open File Manager and go to the public_html folder.
  4. Upload everything from your project folder into it.
  5. Visit your domain. The site is live.

Ask the AI to prepare the upload for you — "get this folder ready to upload to shared hosting and tell me exactly which files go where" — and it will hand you the list.

Disclosure

The Hostinger links above are referral links carrying a discount code. If you sign up through them I may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you — and the discount is the reason the code exists. I recommend Hostinger because it is the simplest single-supplier route for an Indian brand site; the alternatives in the next section are genuinely good and I have listed them honestly, including the ones that cost nothing.

Choosing your domain name

A .in reads as clearly Indian and costs less; a .com costs a little more and travels better if you sell abroad. Either is fine. Add 18% GST to the listed price.

Check the renewal price, not the offer price. A domain advertised at ₹99 for the first year frequently renews at over ₹1,000. Not a scam, but quiet, and worth ten seconds of checking.

Register it in your own name, on your own email. A domain held in somebody else's account is the commonest way a brand loses control of its own address, and you find out years later at the worst possible moment.

07Other hosting options

Sunday, later. Worth knowing what else was on the table.

Cloudflare Pages — free

Hosts a site of plain files at no cost, on servers worldwide, with SSL included. It connects to your GitHub copy and republishes automatically whenever you save a change, which is the nicest workflow of any option here. The trade-off is that you buy the domain separately, get no email at your domain, and the setup assumes a little more comfort with technical screens.

Netlify — free

Equally good, and the friendliest first time: you can drag your folder onto their page and have a live site without touching GitHub at all. Same trade-offs as Cloudflare — domain and email are separate concerns.

GitHub Pages — free

The simplest option once your files are already on GitHub, with the fewest features. Fine for a straightforward brand site.

Any of these will serve your website properly. Hostinger's advantage is that hosting, domain and email arrive together with one invoice; the free options are better if you would rather not pay monthly and do not need email at your domain.

What it costs to run

ItemWhat to expect
Hosting (Hostinger shared)From around ₹149 a month on a long term; renews higher
Domain nameUsually free for year one, then roughly ₹900–1,400 a year
SSL certificateIncluded
VS Code, GitHubFree
Claude Pro, while buildingAbout ₹1,800 a month; cancel when you're done

Prices are indicative and change often — check current rates before you buy. Hosting and domain prices attract 18% GST. The AI subscription is billed in US dollars, so the rupee figure moves with the exchange rate.

Take Claude Pro for the month or two you are actively building and cancel afterwards; the website carries on without it. After that your only ongoing costs are hosting and the domain.

Common doubts

  • "Wouldn't a professional do this better?"

Almost certainly — a good designer brings judgement an AI does not have, and if you have the budget you should use one. This guide is for the case where you want to build it yourself, and it gets you a real website rather than no website.

  • "Is AI-written code secure?"

For a site that stores nothing, logs nobody in and takes no payments, there is very little to attack. The security warnings you have read are about applications that hold user data — a different kind of website from the one you are building.

  • "Will Google rank an AI-built website?"

Google evaluates what a page contains and how fast it loads, not who typed it. A site of plain files is typically faster than a page-builder site, which helps.

  • "What if I get stuck?"

You will, probably on Saturday. Because you hold the actual files, anyone can look at them — a friend who codes, a freelancer for an hour, or me. That is a far smaller problem than being stuck with nothing.

When to hire a professional

Bring in help when the website starts taking payments, when it holds customer accounts or personal data, when it becomes your shop rather than your shopfront, or when downtime would cost you real money.

There is also a good version of this moment. When the brand grows and the budget is there, hire a designer properly — and go to them with a site you have lived with for a year, which makes for a far sharper brief than you could have written before you had one.

Frequently asked questions

Can I really build a website without any coding knowledge?

Yes. You describe what you want in plain English and the AI writes every line. You need to be able to look at a result and say clearly what is wrong with it — that is the whole requirement.

How long does it take to build a brand website this way?

About a weekend: setup Friday evening, the bulk of the work Saturday, live on Sunday. Deciding what your pages should say takes longer than building them.

Which hosting is best for a small brand website in India?

Shared hosting is plenty. Hostinger bundles hosting, a free first-year domain, SSL and email at your domain with Indian billing, which is the simplest single-supplier route. Cloudflare Pages and Netlify host free if you don't need email and don't mind buying the domain separately.

Should I choose a .in or a .com domain?

Either works. A .in is cheaper and reads as Indian; a .com travels better abroad. Check the renewal price rather than the first-year offer, and register it in your own name.

What happens to my website if I cancel the AI subscription?

Nothing. Your website is a folder of files on hosting you control. The AI was a tool you used to write them; cancelling it does not affect the live site.

Do I need Claude Pro, or will the free plan work?

The free plan works but its daily limit will interrupt you mid-build. Pro is about ₹1,800 a month and you only need it while you are actively working on the site.

The website that exists beats the one you have been meaning to commission. Build the first page this weekend and improve it from there.

Start with one page — your work, your name, and a way to reach you — and get it live on your own domain. Add to it a conversation at a time.

Stuck part-way?

Send me one line about where it went wrong, and I'll tell you what to ask for next.

No charge, and no quote at the end of it — you're building this one yourself, which is the whole idea.
